The ProQual Level 3 Aesthetics Pathway Award is the recognised entry point into the UK's regulated aesthetics qualification framework. It is the first formal step on the ProQual pathway an Ofqual-regulated route that takes practitioners from foundation level all the way through to the master-level Level 7 Diploma.

This course is delivered at LBL Academy in Chelmsford, Essex inside a real, operating aesthetic clinic. You are not learning in a training centre that has never seen a client. You are training in the same environment you will work in professionally, under the supervision of a practitioner who treats clients every week.

Who Is This Course For?

  •  Complete career changers no beauty or aesthetics background required. If you are motivated to enter the industry and willing to commit to the pathway, this is where it starts.

  • Beauty therapists and salon professionals: you have the client skills already. The L3 gives you the regulated aesthetics foundation that your existing qualifications do not cover.

  • L2 graduates from LBL Academy — the natural next step after completing the Level 2 Award in Makeup Services, moving from beauty into the regulated aesthetics pathway

  • Practitioners with informal aesthetics experience CPD courses and short training days do not produce regulated qualifications. The L3 is how you formalise what you already know.

  • For anyone with a long-term goal of reaching Level 7, the ProQual pathway is sequential. You cannot skip to L5 or L7 without L3 as the foundation

The L3 Aesthetics Pathway Award is built for people at the start of their aesthetics journey. It is the entry point deliberately designed to be accessible to those coming from outside the industry, as well as those already working in beauty who want to move into aesthetics formally.

What You Will Learn - Theory

The theory component of the Level 3 Award is what separates a trained aesthetic practitioner from someone who has watched a tutorial. It builds the scientific and clinical knowledge base that underpins everything you do with a client safely, professionally, and with the depth that insurers expect.

Anatomy & Physiology for Aesthetic Practice

Performing a complete pre-treatment assessment skin analysis, medical history review, contraindication screening, and written consent. This is the skill that sits at the start of every treatment you will ever perform professionally.

Skin Preparation & Treatment Environment

Preparing the client's skin correctly for aesthetic treatment. Setting up and maintaining a clinical treatment environment to the standards required for insurance and professional practice. Corners cut here create problems later.

Client Consultation & Treatment Planning

How to conduct a thorough aesthetic consultation taking a full medical history, identifying red flags, setting realistic expectations, and creating a documented treatment plan. The consultation is where professional liability is established it must be done correctly every time.

Contraindications & Cautions

What conditions, medications, and circumstances make a client unsuitable for aesthetic treatment either permanently or temporarily. Knowing when not to treat is as important as knowing how to treat. This module covers the contraindications relevant to the treatment scope at Level 3.

What You Will Learn - Practical

The practical training days at LBL Academy are where knowledge becomes clinical skill. Under direct supervision from Laura, you will apply the theory you have studied in a real clinical environment building the hands-on competence that the ProQual assessment and your future insurance coverage require.

Client Assessment & Pre-Treatment Protocols

Planning and carrying out observed assessments of learners performing vocational tasks in a real work or training environment. Recording your observations accurately, making and recording your assessment decision, and providing written and verbal feedback to the learner. This is the core practical competency of a vocational assessor.

Professional Discussion as an Assessment Method

Conducting structured professional discussions with learners to assess knowledge and understanding that cannot easily be observed directly. Planning the discussion, asking questions that elicit evidence of competence, recording the discussion outcomes and making a justified assessment decision from it.

Introductory Aesthetic Treatment Techniques

Hands-on practical training in the specific treatment techniques included in the Level 3 package at LBL Academy. Confirm the exact treatment modules with Laura at consultation the package is structured to give you a strong practical foundation for progression to Level 4 and above.

Documentation & Record Keeping

Creating and maintaining accurate client records  consultation forms, treatment records, consent documentation, before and after photography protocols. In a claim situation, your documentation is your protection. This is not optional admin it is clinical practice.

Practising on Real Clients From Day One

Every practical skill at Level 3 is performed on real people, not mannequins, not synthetic skin, not each other in pairs. LBL Academy is a working aesthetic clinic, and that means your training environment is the same as your working environment.

On your training days, you will work with live models under Laura's direct supervision. You will conduct the full client journey consultation, assessment, treatment delivery, and aftercare advice with real skin, real responses, and real clinical conditions. This is the only training context that genuinely prepares you for professional practice.

The photos and documented evidence from your live model sessions become a core part of your ProQual portfolio assessment. The more model work you can document, the stronger your assessment submission Laura will guide you on what evidence the portfolio requires and how to build it efficiently.

Will You Be Insured to Practise After Qualifying?

Yes the ProQual Level 3 Award is recognised by major UK aesthetic insurance providers for the treatment scope it covers. The treatments you are qualified to perform at Level 3 become insurable once you hold this qualification and take out the appropriate professional indemnity and public liability policy.

This is an important distinction from CPD training. A CPD certificate alone is not sufficient for insurance coverage across most treatment categories in the UK aesthetics market. A ProQual Level 3 as an Ofqual-regulated qualification — satisfies the requirements that most professional insurers specify.

Always confirm with your chosen insurer — Cosmetic Insure, Westminster Insurance, Towergate or ABT exactly which treatments your Level 3 qualification covers under your specific policy before you begin treating paying clients.

Where Does the Level 3 Take You?

The ProQual Level 3 Award opens your first commercially insurable scope of practice in aesthetics and positions you on the regulated pathway that leads to the most advanced injectable qualifications available to non-medical practitioners in the UK.

Entry-Level Aesthetic Practice

With your Level 3 in place and appropriate insurance, you can begin offering the aesthetic services within your qualified scope commercially. This is your professional starting point the qualification that makes you an insured, regulated aesthetics practitioner for the first time.

Salon & Clinic Employment

Many aesthetics clinics, beauty salons and medical spas look for practitioners holding regulated ProQual qualifications. The Level 3 makes you employable in environments that require staff to hold nationally recognised credentials not just CPD training.

Building Your Own Client Base

With insurance and a regulated qualification, you can begin treating private clients building a portfolio, accumulating reviews, and developing the clinical experience that accelerates progression through Level 4 and 5.

The ProQual Pathway - What Comes Next

Level 3 is the start, not the destination for most students. The pathway continues through Level 4 (Diploma in Aesthetic Treatment & Skin), Level 5 certificates in specific treatments (microneedling, chemical peel, skin boosters), Level 6, and ultimately the Level 7 Diploma the highest non-medical injectable qualification in the UK.

Starter Kit - What Do You Need?

LBL Academy supplies all consumables and equipment for your training days, so there's no need to bring your own aesthetics kit — the clinic has everything covered for practical sessions.

Once qualified and treating clients, you'll build your own clinical kit. Requirements depend on your Level 3 scope; Laura will advise you during training. Typical essentials include:

  • Consultation forms and consent documentation clinical-grade templates appropriate for aesthetic practice

  • Skin analysis tools magnifying lamp or dermatoscope, appropriate for your treatment scope

  • Treatment consumables relevant to your Level 3 treatment modules confirm specific items with Laura

  • Hygiene and sterilisation supplies single-use items, surface disinfectant, clinical waste disposal

  • Social media for new aesthetic practitioners how to present yourself professionally online at Level 3 without overstating your current scope of practice
