Microneedling training is accessible at an earlier stage than most advanced aesthetics treatments, but a foundation in skin and facial therapy is still the baseline.
Entry Requirements for Microneedling
The L2 Award has minimal prerequisites - it is deliberately designed as an open-entry qualification:

Level 3 NVQ in Beauty Therapy, advanced facials qualification, or equivalent recognised skincare accreditation

What This Course Covers
1. The Science of Collagen Induction Therapy
Micro-injuries trigger the three phases of wound healing: Inflammation (0–3 days) → Proliferation (3–10 days) → Remodelling (10 days–12 months), during which Type III collagen gradually converts to Type I.
2. Device Selection - Pen vs Roller and Why It Matters
Pen devices offer consistent, calibrated depth (the clinical standard); derma rollers produce inconsistent depth due to their oblique angle and are only suitable for shallow, at-home use.
3. Needle Depth by Indication - The Clinical Decision That Changes Everything
Depth ranges from 0.25–0.5mm (for hydration/product infusion) up to 1.5–2mm (for deep scarring), selected according to the concern being treated — the right depth for the need, not simply the deepest possible.
4. Erythema as a Clinical Depth Indicator
The pattern of redness indicates whether the depth was correct: mild redness means superficial treatment, pinpoint bleeding indicates therapeutic depth, and an uneven pattern signals a technique issue.
5. Serum Infusion - What Works and Why
There is a 45–90 minute post-treatment window during which HA (low molecular weight), peptides and growth factors infuse effectively; retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and vitamin C should be avoided during this time.
Fitzpatrick-Specific Protocols
Higher Fitzpatrick types (IV–VI) require conservative depth, fewer passes, strict SPF use and longer gaps between sessions to minimise PIH risk.
Treatment Intervals by Skin Concern
Intervals vary by concern: rejuvenation (4–6 weeks), acne scarring (6–8 weeks), PIH (8–12 weeks), and stretch marks (8–10 weeks).
Contraindications - Full Clinical Framework
Treatment should be avoided in cases of active acne/infection, history of keloid scarring, active cold sores, use of blood thinners, eczema/psoriasis, and recent isotretinoin use.
Post-Treatment Protocols and the Skin Cycling Question
The first 24 hours require gentle care and SPF; retinoids, AHAs and vitamin C should only be gradually reintroduced after a specific number of days (5–10).
On the Day - Course Format
One structured training day theory in the morning, supervised live model practice in the afternoon.
Morning - Theory and Clinical Knowledge
Wound healing biology, device comparison, needle depth by indication, erythema as depth indicator, serum selection science, Fitzpatrick protocols, treatment intervals by skin concern, contraindication framework, post-treatment skin cycling guidance. Interactive throughout real case scenarios, protocol decisions and the questions clients most frequently ask about microneedling covered in practical terms.
Afternoon - Live Model Practice
Full supervised microneedling treatments on live models. Every delegate performs the complete protocol consultation review, device calibration, depth selection, pass technique, serum infusion and post-treatment care under Laura's direct supervision. Real-time feedback on speed, pressure, overlap pattern, depth assessment from erythema response and serum application. You leave having performed a real treatment, not watched one.
On Completion
CPD certificate on the day. Needle depth reference guide by indication, Fitzpatrick protocol chart, serum selection reference, post-treatment skin cycling timeline and client aftercare documentation provided.
