Chemical peel training is appropriate for skin and aesthetics practitioners with an existing foundation in skin anatomy and facial treatments. It is not an entry-level beauty therapy course.
Entry Requirements for Chemical Peel

Level 3 NVQ in Beauty Therapy, advanced facials qualification, or equivalent recognised skincare qualification

Basic working knowledge of skin anatomy the course builds on this but does not start from the absolute beginning

Valid Level 3 First Aid certificate First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid current before the course date

What This Course Covers
1. The Science Behind Chemical Peels — Acids, pH and Skin Biology
How acids, pH and concentration interact to determine peel depth, and how controlled chemical injury triggers skin renewal and collagen production.
2. Fitzpatrick Skin Typing - The Clinical Assessment That Governs Everything
The core clinical assessment (Type I–VI) that governs peel selection, safe concentrations and PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) risk, especially in higher Fitzpatrick types.
3. Pre-Peel Priming — Why Preparation Determines the Result
Why preparation matters: retinoid priming, hydroquinone for higher-risk clients, SPF use, and proper degreasing before treatment.
4. AHA Peels - Glycolic, Lactic and Mandelic Acid
Properties, penetration depth and best indications for each acid (fine lines, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin respectively).
5. BHA Peels — Salicylic Acid
Lipid-soluble action ideal for acne and congested skin, anti-inflammatory benefits, and key contraindications (aspirin allergy).
must not be confused with TCA frosting. This distinction is covered in the practical session.
6. Application Technique - From Preparation to Neutralisation
Full treatment sequence: prep, application tools, timing/monitoring, neutralisation for AHA peels, and immediate post-peel care.
7. Post-Treatment Protocols and Downtime Management
Expected downtime by peel type, post-peel skincare do's/don'ts, and guidance on spacing repeat treatments for a full course.
On the Day - Course Format
One structured training day combining morning theory with afternoon live model practice.
Morning - Theory and Science
Acid chemistry and pH science, Fitzpatrick skin typing workshop, pre-peel priming protocols, AHA and BHA peel science and indications, TCA and Jessner's protocols, application technique walkthrough, post-peel management and complication recognition. Interactive throughout Laura works through real case scenarios, common questions practitioners face in clinic and the clinical decisions that determine whether a peel session produces an outstanding result or a disappointed client.
Afternoon - Live Model Practice
Supervised chemical peel treatments on live models. Every delegate performs a full peel treatment preparation, Fitzpatrick assessment, peel selection, application, monitoring and post-peel care under Laura's direct supervision. Real-time feedback on application technique, timing, monitoring and post-peel management. You leave having performed a real peel on a real client, not having watched a demonstration.
On Completion
CPD certificate issued on the day. Fitzpatrick assessment guide, peel selection reference chart, application timing reference and post-peel client homecare protocol provided. Post-course clinical support from Laura as you begin performing peels in your own practice.
